Position Overview
Recognizing that the Chamber is a critical part of Seminole County’s strategic growth, it is necessary to develop a robust Chamber of Commerce that empowers the strategic objectives of its membership. Therefore, Seminole County Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is seeking a dynamic, energetic and charismatic President to enhance and grow a unified member based organization. The essence of this position is to spearhead the innovation of the Chamber and create a sustaining member focused community of representatives that are empowered and entrusted with Seminole County’s economic success.
The President will continue to nurture a “Spirit of Success” through providing an unrelenting focus on the sense of purpose and strategy for the organization. They will define and implement changes to the Chamber, advancing the experience of its members while ensuring the strategic and commercial objectives of the Chamber are met.
The Chamber is an active and highly respected organization with approximately 740 members, a staff of 5 and a budget of $850,000.
Position Responsibilities
* Increases net membership and revenue to the Chamber through effective programs, sales efforts and staff management.
* Establishes, coordinates, and appropriately delegates to staff and volunteers strategies and tactics necessary to implement and advance organizational goals and objectives, including, but not limited to: retaining and increasing membership through programs, services, and recruitment; providing relevant programs and services to meet member organizations’ needs and interests; and generating revenues sufficient or exceeds what is necessary to support and sustain the Chamber’s mission and operation.
* Provides effective leadership of staff and volunteers through an inclusive, motivating, collegial, and respectful management style.
* Interface with the executive leadership of local businesses as well as all other levels of individuals within government and elected office to gain collective contribution to the vision for economic prosperity and continuous improvement of Seminole County. They will use the guidance of the Board of Directors as well as organization’s members to ensure the services provided by Chamber employees are consistent with the authorized business plan.
Focus Areas
MEMBERSHIP: Grow, involve, and retain membership by developing innovative programs, services, and benefits. Attend various Chamber and community meetings and functions.
PUBLIC RELATIONS: Responsible for all communications to the members and the general public. Represents the Chamber at various meetings and functions. Maintains close liaison with all relevant parties in the area. Makes or causes to be made public addresses or appearances before governmental hearings and other functions.
POLICY: Review existing policies. Make recommendations for additional policies for both internal and governmental affairs. Develop relationships with key legislative offices on a local, state, and national level. Oversee committee structures and policies, ensuring compliance of any and all applicable laws.
ADMINISTRATION: The President reports to the board of directors and is the chief paid executive of the Chamber. Responsible for all administrative and management functions, the president executes the mission of the Chamber as approved by the board of directors and executes the work program and strategic plan, including both long- and short-range goals. Recruits, supervises, trains, reviews, dismisses, and develops salary and/or bonus recommendations off all paid staff. Oversees volunteer committees. Have knowledge and ensure compliance of laws affecting non-profit organizations. Identify proper uses for the Chamber’s foundation. Continually develop community relations with strategic organizations.
FINANCIAL: Prepares annual budget in conjunction with the treasurer and board of directors. Oversees daily management of receivables and payables, ensuring timely preparation of the monthly financial reports. Develop and implement capital campaigns as deemed necessary. Plan to ensure long-term organizational sustainability.
Preferred Qualifications
* Previous Chamber experience as president or executive level
* Proven ability to continually grow a non-profit organization, including a dossier of examples of innovative fund raising success stories and lessons learned
* A minimum of ten years of work experience with five years in an executive, political or sales role. Previous positions with an emphasis on networking and collaboration is strongly preferred.
* An excellent communicator (written, verbal and presentation skills) with emphasis on attention to detail; media training and experience; exceptionally competent at impromptu speaking engagements with the ability to effectively communicate the vision and desired outcome
* College degree, preferably masters
* Institute for Organization Management (IOM) or Certified Chamber Executive (CCE)
